Creative activities rooted in place

ART, ECOLOGY & COMMUNITY

Growing up in Fife, and spending much of my life walking its coastline, has shaped a practice rooted in landscape, heritage and the materials found close at hand. I work with foraged plants, soil, wild clay, seaweed, the seasons, natural processes and sea-worn relics.

Activities often begin with looking, gathering and making - using what is available locally, and only what we need. Botanical inks, pigments, photographic emulsions, brushes, cordage and camera-less images become ways to explore seasonal change, local ecologies and Fife's Industrial Heritage, while caring for the places and communities they come from.

Art and heritage can stimulate powerful connections between people, and I enjoy nurturing that exchange through work and education. Busy hands, calm minds: tactile making can support wellbeing, ease anxiety and bring people together, with no prior skillset required. The focus is on process, curiosity and the pleasure of making something together.

Accessibility & inclusion

During workshops, the focus is always on process, so no prior skillset is required. Activities can be adapted to suit specific projects and different ages, abilities, settings and levels of experience. As a neurodivergent artist, I offer flexible ways to take part, with choice around materials, sensory input, communication and pace, indoors or outdoors.

Sustainable making

Sustainable making is part of the practice. I use what is needed, make the most of found and natural materials, and consider where they come from and what happens next.

Selected activity

Anthotypes

Making photographs using plant-based emulsions that fade or develop through exposure to sunlight. Anthotypes offer a slow, ephemeral approach to image-making and a simple introduction to photography, requiring only paper, plants, sunlight and patience - no chemicals or darkroom. The process invites reflection on time, impermanence and the energy of the sun.
